Vintage Pro Sports LLC Causing Wrong Oakland Raiders Stadium Buzz Vintage Pro Sports LLC is a name of an organization that seems to have come up from out of the blue. I can find no credible information about the business and there is confusion regarding whether it's based in Buffalo or Atlanta, Georgia. Moreover, the Atlanta address is actually one that belongs to a litigation firm. There is no online record of Vintage Pro Sports LLC as a business listing on any place other than its own website. Yet this organization claims to be interested in Oakland and says it sent a proposal to Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. And in another communication to the blog Save Oakland Raiders it claims it met with the Coliseum JPA. The Executive Director of the Coliseum JPA has never heard of Vintage Sports LLC or taken a meeting with anyone connected with such a firm. As I say in my video, four people contacted me about this, and for the most part they never ask me about potential investors in Coliseum City -only one person asked me about Bob Iger, so he gets a pass. But this looks really fishy. Steer clear. Anyone who claims to have access to billionaires should tell the Raiders, not the public. If the City of Oakland's Mayor had a task force on the stadium issue, matters like this would not come up. This can make Oakland look bad. Stay tuned.

Mary King, Alameda County's First Black Female Supervisor, Oakland Treasure, Passes

Mary V King passed away at 68 and leaves behind a story book series of achievements that was chronicled in this press release by Alameda Contra Costa Transit District. It is with a heavy heart that AC Transit announces the death of former Interim General Manager Mary V. King. She worked tirelessly for the District and our Board of Directors to carry the agency through tough economic times. Ms. King was a true trailblazer and used her considerable expertise in government to develop and advocate for efficient transportation systems and services to help people move around the Bay Area. In 1988, Mary V. King became the first African American woman to be elected an Alameda County Supervisor. She was re-elected twice and served as Board President for two years. During her tenure, she authored many policies with lasting impact on the Bay Area including: · The King Plan– a major land-use amendment to the County General Plan to protect open-space while maintaining sustainable development in unincorporated areas that’s now considered a model for smart-growth. · The Values Based Budgeting Process– an innovative approach to county budget reform, which received statewide recognition and continues to be used by the county. Prior to being elected to public office, Ms. King led the drive for a successful county tax initiative campaign (Measure B) that created new sources of funding for public transit and other transportation projects and made Alameda County one of the first “self help” counties in the State. She also worked to improve economic conditions and social services for lower income residents, promoting health and education, and youth violence prevention programs. The Mary V. King Health Education Center is named in her honor as part of the Eastmont Wellness Center in Oakland. Mary chaired several community-based and regional committees, including the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s Bay Bridge Design Task Force. She was Chief of Staff to California State Legislator, Bill Lockyer; Chief of Staff to Oakland Mayor, Lionel J. Wilson; and later an assistant to Oakland City Manager, Henry Gardner. Upon leaving office in 2001, Ms. King became a private consultant specializing in government affairs, regional housing, land-use, and transportation issues. In 2004, she was recruited to become the Assistant General Manager for Communications and External Affairs at the Alameda Contra Costa Transit District, and, in 2009, she was appointed to head the transit district as our General Manager. She retired from the agency in early 2012 and was later appointed to fill a vacancy on the BART Board of Directors in August 2012. King has been given the 2014 Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) Grand Award in recognition of her leadership as Chair of the Bay Bridge Design Task Force that oversaw the public involvement process and selection of the unique self-anchored suspension element (SAS) for the new East Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Among other honors, Mary has been given the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Conference Of Minority Transportation Officials; the “Allen E. Broussard Memorial Award for Outstanding Humanitarianism” by the Alameda County Bar Association; the “George Moscone Memorial Award” by the American Society of Public Administration; the Community Leaders Recognition Award by the Black Elected Officials and Faith Based Leaders of the East Bay and was named the “Legislator of the Year” in 1992 by the Association of Retarded Citizens. Most notably, she is a founder of the Alameda County “Women’s Hall of Fame Awards,” which has grown to be a signature countywide event and is now comprised of 200 honorees. Ms. King, a lifelong resident of Oakland, is survived by her mother Victoria King, two daughters Kimberly and Vikki King and two grandchildren.

How Oakland Can Use IDBs To Privately Finance Raiders, A's Stadiums The basics: the Oakland Coliseum City project would be financed via an Industrial Development Lease Revenue Series of bond issues (IDBs) let by the Oakland-Alameda County Joint Powers Authority but on behalf of a specially formed corporation, an LLC, that would be a partnership of the City of Oakland, the A's and the Raiders and a Hotel Corporation. If the City of Oakland elected to buy out the County, then the JPA name would be called the "Oakland Coliseum JPA". Because of the use of an Industrial Development Lease Revenue Series of bond issues, the City and County (or City) would not have to pay for defaults. The Raiders / A's / City / Hotel Company owns the project (which includes the stadiums), but title is signed the over to the JPA issuing the bonds. The JPA bonds are secured by a first mortgage on the project and property. The Raiders / A's / City / Hotel Company then makes lease payments to a bond trustee using revenue from the Coliseum City Project (which includes PSL, NFL G4 Loan, Hotel Revenues, and other identified project-generated monies), who acts as a third party and uses the money to pay off the JPA bonds. The bond trustee is commonly a highly rated and regarded national banking organization. If the Raiders / A's / City / Hotel Company is not able to make the bond payments and the bonds go into default, the bond trustee forecloses on the project and sells it off to repay the bondholders without damaging or affecting the JPA as the issuer - note that neither the City of Oakland or the County of Alameda, or any other government entity would be effected. No public subsidy or loan is required. When the bonds are retired, the JPA which issued the bonds transfers title back to the Raiders / A's / City / Hotel Company. The real property that the Oakland Coliseum City Project is developed on is exempt from property taxes during the entire 40-year life of the JPA bonds. That said, the project generates sales tax and hotel tax revenues, even though I ask for a 40 percent hotel tax break in the spreadsheet.

SPECTRE Best James Bond Film Ever #007

SPECTRE is the best Janes Bond film ever. I explain why in some depth in the vlog but I will say that it is deservedly longer than Skyfall and really serves to end the four set story that started with Casino Royale. The story is excellent, Daniel Craig does a hell of an acting job and the Sam Mendes direction leaves many breath-taking moments. And the Bond women are superb both Monica Balduicci and Leia Sidoux. As for the Aston Martin DB 10 I wish Bond had not crashed it. Christophe Weitz is the epitome of nastiness. Overall an excellent work and I do see where San Smith's theme fits. Well done.

T.J. Simers Wins $7.1 Million In Los Angeles Times Lawsuit

T.J. Simers won $7.1 million in Los Angeles Times lawsuit. He did so because the LA Times treated him abusively after he suffered a mild stroke. The LAl Times counters that he was fired because of what they claim was a side business deal with a friend who was a videographer. But the real lesson here is in how media has changed. Simers made $239,000 annually and for writing three times a week. By contrast a blogger at Rivals website will get just $50 per month. Per month. The difference is that in the 20th Century a brand of media like the LA Times cleared millions from paper subscriptions. But that has given way to the Internet and mobile, where the content is not seen by enough eyeballs to justify let alone pay that kind of salary. The economics of media have been altered by digital communications. So T.J. Simers may be the last journalist to see that kind of money. Stay tuned.

Ross Mirkarimi lost his battle to be reelected San Francisco Sheriff as a shockingly low turnout election of 20 percent and 60 percent of that vote by mail was the real difference. Ross has been a true friend to me and so I was obligated to help him in his reelection bid. Never turn your back on your friends. Ross will be back. He was a good sheriff who presided over many reforms that made the office more responsive to the public. But a series of mishaps, some beyond his control but others not, doomed his chances.
